Echoes from an Island
Echoes from an Island is a collection of poetry and short stories about inspiration and wonder. Told through the eyes of a woman visiting Okinawa, Japan, the book takes readers on a search for meaning that stretches across cultures, kingdoms, and eras.
A mixed manuscript composed of 9 poems and 3 short stories, the poems celebrate ocean wonders, feminine strength, and spirituality, leaving one with a sense of awe and a touch of magic.
She needed no jewelry to adorn her.
She needed no tailored wear to fashion her.
She had no makeup or perfume to refine her.
She had no oversized leather bag or fancy heels to elevate her.
Yet, she is beautiful.
Alicia is a Singaporean author, marketeer, and interpreter. She believes in leading a life full of texture, living in a place close to nature and layers of history, with proximity to quaint streets and cultures, as well as good tea and trinkets.
With a Beijing Government Municipal Scholarship, she studied International Politics at Peking University with a minor in Art. Unexpectedly, she soon found compelling stories to share with others and learned that stories come to her when she travels. She then became a student writer with the largest Singaporean Chinese-language newspaper, Lianhe Zaobao. In 2013, she won Second Place in the 2nd China Original Short Musical Script Competition.
Her debut collection of short stories and poems, Echoes from an Island, was published in 2023. She is currently working on her next creation, Letters from the Heart.
